Understanding sepsis in ICU

The RESOLVE-SHOCK research team invites people with lived experience of being critically ill in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), who have had shock (very low blood pressure) or sepsis, along with their family members and carers. Our goal is to use hospital data and blood samples to better understand why some patients recover while others deteriorate, in order to develop more targeted treatments. We are looking for partners to work alongside researchers at all stages of this project. Your unique insights will be essential to help shape our research questions, inform the study’s design, and ensure our findings are shared in a way that is meaningful to patients, families, and the wider community.

Has your child been to emergency with stomach pain?

Researchers invite parents or carers of children who were investigated for or diagnosed with appendicitis to help improve how doctors diagnose and manage this condition in WA hospitals. This project will explore the best performing Clinical Prediction Scores (CPSs) to see whether these tools can help doctors make faster, safer decisions for kids. We are looking for Research Buddies to work alongside the team to ensure it is informed and guided by lived experience across all stages.

Eating disorders and bladder issues

We are inviting individuals aged 25 and above with lived experience of Anorexia Nervosa and bladder issues to join our research project as Research Buddies. Your insights will help us design a practical screening tool that helps us to identify adolescents who may be struggling with eating disorders and continence concerns – topics that are private and often difficult to discuss. As a research buddy, you will work with our team across several stages of the project, ensuring the tool is informed by lived experiences and resonates with young people who may be reluctant to seek help.

Oral Cancer Study in Under 50s

Oral cancer is affecting more young Australians than ever before. We are inviting people who have been diagnosed with oral cancer before the age of 50 to share their experiences and help us shape this discovery-science research project to explore early-onset disease in ways that are relevant, respectful and informed by lived experience. By learning more about these cancers and how they behave, we hope to develop better, more personalised treatments for future patients.
