About the Project and the Involvement Opportunity
Researchers are developing a new computer tool to better understand how pancreatic cancer grows and responds to treatment. By identifying important patterns within cancer cells, the research aims to support the development of more personalised treatments in the future.
Although the research uses advanced computer analysis, consumer involvement is essential. Your lived experience will help researchers focus on questions and priorities that matter most to people affected by pancreatic cancer. You’ll also help ensure the research is communicated in ways that are meaningful and understandable.
About the Position
As a Consumer Representative, you will work closely with the research team to provide the perspective of people affected by pancreatic cancer. You will discuss the project’s direction, provide feedback on whether the research is addressing issues that matter to the community, and review plain-language summaries and communication materials. You won’t be expected to understand the technical or computer science aspects of the project as the researchers will explain the work in accessible language.
What Am I Expected to Do?
- Attend regular meetings with the research team (e.g., monthly or quarterly)
- Review documents (e.g., grant applications, consent forms, surveys)
- Share your lived experience and insights
What Skills or Experience Do I Need?
1. Lived experience with pancreatic cancer (either as a patient, survivor, family member, or carer).
2. Comfortable working one-on-one or in small, collaborative discussions with health researchers.
3. Willingness to provide constructive feedback on plain-language summaries and research translation documents.
You do not need experience in research, computer programming, software development, artificial intelligence or genomics. The research team will explain the project in plain language, and your lived experience and perspective are what matter most.
How Long Am I Expected to Be Involved?
We anticipate a commitment of approximately 1-2 hours per quarter over the project’s duration. Meetings will be held quarterly, with occasional brief document reviews via email in between. Flexible participation is fully supported to accommodate your health and personal availability.
