Precision Nutrition and Precision Health: Research Buddy

About the project and the involvement opportunity
The ANPC is conducting a study to learn more about the health benefits of apples. Right now, we need input from the public on a few things:

  1. Review Study Materials. This includes reviewing the forms we use for participants. We want to make sure they are clear and easy to understand.
  2. Helping Shape the Research. This involves telling us if what we do is feasible and relevant from a lived experience perspective.
  3. Recruitment Ideas. Share any ideas you have for finding more participants.
  4. Identify Research Priorities. Tell us what health topics related to apples are most important to you.
    Information will be emailed to successful candidates at least 48 hours in advance of the scheduled meeting date.

About the position
As a research buddy you will work closely with researchers on specific projects. To provide them with guidance, support and advice across the specific project. The guidance and support may also include involvement with research grant applications and plain language summaries. Additionally, Research buddies will act as a crucial link between consumers, community and researchers across the project, providing input to develop strategies to inform the wider community about the research of the group and guidance and expertise on consumer and community issues and research priorities.

What am I expected to do?

  1. Reviewing Study Materials: Examine the recruitment information leaflet and consent form for the study. Ensure that they are written in simple language and are easy to understand.
  2. Feedback on Research Design: Review the research design comprehensively. Provide feedback on the feasibility of all aspects of the research and share your expectations regarding research outcomes.
  3. Recruitment Strategy Suggestions: Offer suggestions on effective recruitment strategies. Tell us what health topics related to apples are most important to you.
  4. Volunteer Preferences: Inform the researchers about what volunteers would prefer to receive in return (e.g., remuneration or access to research results).

What skills or experience do I need?

  • Critical thinking skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Willingness to provide feedback, comments, and suggestions for project documents
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both written and spoken conversation

While formal qualifications are not required, a research buddy’s personal experience, empathy, communication skills, and commitment to the research project are key attributes that can greatly enhance the project’s success and impact.

How long am I expected to be involved?
Research buddies will be paid an honorarium of $37.50 per hour for a maximum of 3 hours. This includes one hour of to read the materials provided in advanced of the discussion and up to a maximum of 2 hours meeting during mid-late May 2024.

Where will meetings be held?
Teams meeting or Australian National Phenome Centre.

What support is offered?
$ 37.50 per hour honorarium. Training and support is offered by the Consumer and Community Involvement Program.
