We are using innovative, new discoveries in non-invasive imaging methods and artificial intelligence to improve how we understand and monitor changes in the eye due to diabetes. Join us to help shape the future of diabetes research towards a better vision for all.

About the position

We’re seeking people with a lived experience to build a meaningful partnership. Your role will include providing input on projects, reviewing project priorities and methods, evaluating lay descriptions in grant applications, and preparing information resources for the community. Your insights into our studies will also be valued for shaping future research and clinical protocols.

What am I expected to do?

Consumer representatives will be asked to meet with researchers at Lions Eye Institute quarterly to discuss ideas and ongoing work. You may be invited to act as a research buddy to support a specific research project.

What skills or experience do I need?

Lived experience of diabetes or carer/family member of an affected person; passion to work in a team to make a difference.

How long am I expected to be involved?

One year with the possibility of extension if we obtain more long-term funding.

Where will meetings be held?

Two meetings a year in person: Lions Eye Institute Nedlands (metro group CCI) and Lions Outback Vision Broome (rural group CCI) or surrounding areas (e.g. local café). Another two online – for all consumer representatives.

What support is offered?

$37.50 per hour honorarium. Training and support is offered by the Consumer and Community Involvement Program.
