The Consumer and Community Involvement Program welcomes the new National Agreement on Closing the Gap (the Agreement).
This Agreement builds on, and replaces, the National Indigenous Reform Agreement (known as Closing the Gap) which started in 2008. It continues the successful elements of the National Indigenous Reform Agreement and addresses areas previously excluded. The most significant is the new Agreement is between all Australian Governments and now, for the first time, with representatives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
The significant outcomes of the Agreement are:
- Shared decision making
- Building the community controlled sector
- Improving mainstream institutions
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples led data
- Specified socio-economic outcomes
