Aboriginal English Voices and the future of technology – Community Yarning and Conversations

The event will begin with a short introduction to our research programme and the conventions we have been using to represent Aboriginal English in writing. New technologies which rely on large language models need spoken language to be transcribed, but who decides how to transcribe the language?

This event will use consumer experience of language representation to decide on the most user-friendly and culturally appropriate way to represent spoken language. Community voice, not schools or language academies, will help us come with the solutions we need.

Nyungar scholar Dr Glenys Collard will begin the evening by sharing information about the project and what it hopes to achieve.

Experience required:

None. You only need to be speakers of Aboriginal English.

An honorarium is offered to attendees and light refreshments will be provided.
