About the role
Community Conversations typically involve group discussions of up to 30 people where attendees share their experiences and perspectives on a research topic. Each discussion table of up to 10 people is supported by a facilitator who helps guide the conversation and ensure attendees feel comfortable contributing.
Working alongside CCIProgram staff, table facilitators help to create a respectful and inclusive discussion environment where a range of voices can be heard. Facilitators play an important role in supporting meaningful conversations that help researchers better understand community priorities and perspectives.
Facilitators are supported by the CCIProgram team and provided with a briefing prior to each event. Community Conversations are held in either an online or in-person format.
What facilitators do
Community Conversation table facilitators typically:
- support small group discussions for up to ten people in breakout room or discussion table
- help create a welcoming and respectful space for attendees
- guide discussion using prompts provided by the CCIProgram and research team
- balancing discussion so all voices have an opportunity to be heard
- work alongside the table/ breakout room scribe to capture key ideas and themes raised during the discussion
Event format
Community Conversation events are delivered throughout the year and may take place in person or online, depending on the project. Most events are held in Perth, although online sessions allow attendance from people across the country. A Community Conversation event runs for two hours with additional set up/ pack down time for in-person events.
To support the facilitation process, facilitators are asked to attend a one hour briefing session in the week prior to the event. This briefing provides background on the topic, discussion prompts, and the structure of the conversation.
