About the project and the involvement opportunity (Plain Language Summary)
The Curtin Medical School Research Committee aims to enhance medical research within the School, ensure effective research within the MBBS course (Bachelor Degree of Medicine, Surgery) and the development of higher degrees by research within the School, and to develop a culture of research in the Medical School curriculum. Much of the research within the School is done in the Kalgoorlie area, and the Committee would like to involve an Aboriginal person who lives in Kalgoorlie to bring a community perspective.
About the position
The Consumer Representative will attend Research Committee meetings and provide the perspective of someone living in the Kalgoorlie community. This may include assisting in setting priorities for research and ensuring the research is appropriate for the community.
What skills or experience do I need?
You need to identify as an Aboriginal person and live in the Kalgoorlie area. An interest in medical research is also required.
How long am I expected to be involved?
Meetings are held quarterly. The term of the position is up to three years.
Where will meetings be held?
Meetings are held at the Curtin Medical School (Bentley campus) and video conferencing is available.
What support is offered?
$37.50 per hour honorarium. Training and support is offered by the Consumer and Community Involvement Program.
