Heart-healthy eating: What support does the South West need?

Join us for an online Community Conversation building on insights gathered across the South West of Western Australia.

In November 2025, we travelled to Bunbury, Busselton, Donnybrook, Manjimup, Bridgetown and Nannup to hear directly from community members about their experiences with heart-healthy eating. Across larger Community Conversations and several smaller Micro Community Conversations, people shared practical realities about cost, access to fresh food, local services, household influences, mental wellbeing, motivation and navigating health information.

What we heard consistently was that knowledge alone is not the main barrier. Instead, affordability, food environments, life circumstances and access to practical, ongoing support shape everyday choices.

In this online session, we will:
• Reflect back the key themes identified across the in-person conversations
• Check whether these findings resonate more broadly
• Refine and prioritise the most important research questions
• Discuss what meaningful, practical support should look like in future programs

This conversation is about moving from listening to action. Your input will help shape a focused, community-informed research project designed to improve real-world support for heart-healthy eating across the South West.

We are now inviting community members from across the South West who have:

  • Experienced a cardiovascular disease event (e.g., heart attack, stroke)
  • Been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease (e.g., coronary heart disease)
  • Are living with cardiovascular disease risk factors (e.g., high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, high blood sugar/diabetes)

An $80 honorarium (Gift Card – for use in Australia) is offered to attendees.

Registrations are essential. Because we aim to include a range of perspectives, places are limited and expressions of interest will be reviewed to support a balanced mix of attendees. To register your interest, please complete the form at the bottom of this page.
